MSME / Udyam Registration is a free government certification that classifies your business as a Micro, Small or Medium Enterprise under the MSMED Act, 2006. With over 2.3 crore registered MSMEs powering 30% of India's GDP, the Udyam certificate has become one of the highest-leverage documents an Indian business can hold — it unlocks collateral-free loans, government tender preferences, electricity bill subsidies, trademark fee discounts and protection against delayed payments.
The classification is based on investment in plant & machinery + annual turnover: Micro (up to ₹1 cr investment + ₹5 cr turnover), Small (up to ₹10 cr + ₹50 cr), Medium (up to ₹50 cr + ₹250 cr). Service businesses are also covered. Any individual, proprietorship, partnership, LLP, Pvt Ltd, OPC, HUF or co-operative society can apply — there's no fee at the government portal, but the documentation and PAN-Aadhaar linkage trip up many first-time applicants.
RegisterEase files your Udyam Registration free of charge as part of every company-incorporation package. Our experts collect your Aadhaar, PAN, business details, bank account, and NIC code (often the trickiest piece — pick the wrong code and you lose eligibility for industry-specific schemes), submit Form Udyam-1, and deliver your Udyam Registration Number (URN) and certificate within 24 hours.
The financial benefits are concrete: 1–2% interest concession on bank loans, 50% subsidy on patent filing, 50% discount on trademark fees, ISO certification reimbursement up to ₹75,000, MUDRA loans up to ₹10 lakh without collateral, and priority sector lending under RBI rules. The regulatory benefits: enterprise buyers must pay MSMEs within 45 days (Section 15, MSMED Act) — delayed payment triggers compound interest at RBI rate × 3. Filing MSME-1 with MCA every six months captures these dues automatically.
The strategic benefits are even bigger. The Government of India reserves 25% of all annual procurement for MSMEs, with 4% specifically for SC/ST-owned MSMEs and 3% for women-owned MSMEs. Most state governments give 10–15% price preference on tenders. GeM portal (which processed ₹3.5 lakh crore in 2023-24) prioritises MSME sellers. Get registered on Day 1 — there's no downside, no compliance burden, and the certificate is valid for life.
