Startup India is a Government of India flagship programme launched in January 2016 to build a strong startup ecosystem. A DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) recognised startup unlocks ten distinct benefits worth lakhs to crores per year: income-tax exemption for any 3 consecutive years out of the first 10 (Section 80-IAC), angel-tax exemption under Section 56(2)(viib), self-certification under 9 labour laws and 3 environmental laws (no random inspections for 3–5 years), 80% rebate on patent fees + 50% on trademark fees, fast-track patent examination, easier public procurement (relaxed EMD + experience norms), and fund-of-funds access through SIDBI's ₹10,000 crore corpus deployed to SEBI-registered VCs.
Eligibility is specific: the entity must be a Pvt Ltd, LLP or Registered Partnership (not proprietorship), incorporated within the last 10 years, with annual turnover never exceeding ₹100 crore in any financial year, and working on a novel product / service / process that drives innovation, employment generation or wealth creation. Branches, holding companies, and entities that resulted from splits/restructures are excluded. Existing businesses pivoted to new innovation lines can apply only with clear documentation of the pivot.
RegisterEase files your DPIIT recognition completely free of charge for clients of any other RegisterEase service. We prepare your pitch deck, draft your innovation note (the single most important document — explains why your product is innovative), file Form DPIIT through the Startup India portal, respond to any clarifications from DPIIT, and deliver your Certificate of Recognition within 7–10 working days. Average first-time approval rate: 92%.
After DPIIT recognition, the ₹80-IAC tax holiday is a separate application — most founders miss this. It requires a fresh Form 1 to the IMB (Inter-Ministerial Board) with detailed business plans, employment data, R&D spending and patents. RegisterEase's Section 80-IAC specialist team files this for ₹19,999 onwards. About 60% of DPIIT-recognised startups apply for and receive 80-IAC — for a profitable startup, this saves ₹15–50 lakh per year of corporate tax during the chosen 3-year window.
Other downstream benefits: GeM marketplace preferential listing, ease in public procurement (Ministry of MSME), Mudra loans at preferential rates, TReDS platform access for receivables discounting, and a wealth of state-level startup policies in Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh — many offer additional state subsidies (₹2 lakh-₹50 lakh) layered on top of central benefits. RegisterEase's state-policy advisory is included in all our incorporation packages.
