A registered trademark in India is valid for 10 years from the date of application (not registration). After that, it must be renewed every 10 years — failing which the mark lapses, becomes available to competitors, and your decade of brand investment is lost. The Trade Marks Registry sends a renewal notice 6 months before expiry, but in practice most brand owners miss it because the notice goes to an old address. RegisterEase tracks every mark we file and renew, and proactively reaches out 9 months before expiry.
Renewal is filed on Form TM-R with the prescribed government fee (₹9,000 per class for physical, ₹4,500 per class for online via the e-filing portal). RegisterEase's ₹3,999 base plan covers the entire renewal: agent fee, government fee assistance, document collation, and successful filing acknowledgement. For multi-class marks, our pricing scales — second class at ₹2,999, third+ at ₹1,999 each.
If your mark has already expired, there's still a 6-month grace period during which you can renew with a late fee surcharge of ₹4,500 per class. Beyond the grace period — within 1 year of expiry — you can file for restoration on Form TM-R + TM-13 at ₹9,000/class extra. After 1 year, the mark is permanently removed from the register. RegisterEase handles all three stages and explains your odds realistically before you spend.
Pro tip: renewal is also the right time to audit your trademark portfolio. If your business has expanded into new categories (e.g., started selling apparel in addition to your original SaaS class), this is when we recommend filing fresh applications in additional classes to lock down your full brand surface area. We run a free 30-min audit before every renewal — most clients end up filing 1–2 new classes alongside the renewal.
